20 September 2009: End of summer

Apparently the first official day of fall is tomorrow. The colours are starting to change but the weather has been spectacular - really warm sunny days and cooler at nights. So nice for training in. And train I have!! The last week has been great - solid training every day and with a week to go until the next race day I think things are coming together well. Hopefully I can take some of the good weather here in Kansas down to Georgia - the only reports I have heard are of flooding rain which wouldn't make the race that fun. I am wondering though if this time of year is maybe also skunk season???? Have seen quite a few around - until recently the only ones I had seen were squashed onto the tarmac - but have smelt many many more than what I have seen. And have to say that is really not the greatest smell when you are time trialling. Road kill is bad, skunk is bad but I think road kill skunk really beats all comers in the heinous smell category. A big week coming up here - off to Interbike on Wednesday, Augusta on Friday, race Sunday then back to Lawrence. Right now resting up after this mornings run and bike, well getting some other nutrition work done anyway, and in between procrastinating by updating here! Also feeling disappointed by the realisation that I am going to miss the second half of the Top Chef season - will have to find a way around that......
