15-06-08: Racing Update: To round
off a horror two week race trip, Pip has DNF’d at Kansas 70.3
after also having to withdraw from Escape From Alcatraz the previous
week. A back injury sustained before Alcatraz left her in pain and
unable to get any power on the bike or run. For Pip this was extremely
disappointing as one of her major season goals was to better her
2nd at Alcatraz from last year. Despite receiving treatment during
the week and leading the swim out in Kansas comfortably Pip had
to again withdraw on the bike. Check the diary section for more
from Pip.
26-05-08 Escape from Alcatraz, San Francisco:
Less than two weeks to go until Alcatraz and Pip is looking
forward to one of her favourite races on the calendar. Check Diary
update for more from Pip.
3-05-08 Wildflower Long Course Triathlon,
California: Pip has finished 3rd at Wildflower in a great
turn around from being sick at St Anthony's last weekend. She exited
the swim in second position before hitting the lead early on in
the bike. After having a "bad patch", Pip got off the
bike in 5th position before using the second fastest run split of
the day to run time into everyone except Sam McGlone (who out-split
Pip by about 40sec for the 21km). Final results were 1st Sam McGlone,
2nd Leanda Cave and 3rd Pip Taylor.
27-04-08 St Anthony's Triathlon, Florida:
Pip fell victim to a stomach bug and was unable to complete the
race. She did choose to start the event, but had to withdraw after
the swim and the bike just not having any fuel or strength in the
"tank". She is not happy to say the least - but is looking
forward to racing Wildflower this coming Saturday and showing her
form.
12-04-08 Aflac Iron Girl Las Vegas:
Pip has finished 2nd at the Aflac Iron Girl Las Vegas Triathlon.
After leading out the swim, the hilly and windy bike course saw
Pip and Becky Lavelle battling it out at the front with Mirinda
Carfrae moving up into contention. Pip found the bike course difficult
to get into a rhythm and really push the pace on, with the cross
winds making it a battle to keep bikes upright. Onto the run and
all three girls left transition in quick succession with Mirinda
attacking early on the hills over the first couple of miles. Despite
chasing hard once the course leveled out, Pip was unable to close
the gap and the final placings saw Mirinda take the win with Pip
in second, Becky Lavelle in third and Samantha McGlone in fourth.
7-04-08 Aflac Iron Girl Las Vegas:
Pip is all set to race the Iron Girl Triathlon in Las Vegas this
coming Saturday. Check back for a race report after the event and
look out for coverage on NBC this July.
16-03-08 Miami International Triathlon:
Pip has kicked off the season with a second place in the Miami International
Triathlon today. Pip emerged from the water in a lead group of four
with 2007 Dallas US Open winner and USA Olympic Team hopeful Sarah
Haskins moving to the front on the bike. Pip rode steady to hold
a good position and then had the days equal fastest run to finish
second to Haskins. A good start to the season after a lot of travel
and setting up in the USA and Pip now looks forward to getting in
some solid training in the coming weeks.
6-03-08 Sponsor News: Pip will be
racing for Kestrel in 2008 and will debut on her Airfoil Pro this
weekend in Miami. Pip will also be riding on Profile Design, Zipp
and SRAM for 2008 and looks forward to working with the marque brands
of the cycling world for many years to come.
An exciting aspect of Pip's relationship with Kestrel will be working
on the development of the new Kestrel "Superbike" to be
debuted sometime in the near(ish) future.....
6-03-08 Sponsor News: Pip will be
joining Team Clif Bar for 2008. As an athlete who is passionate
about good nutrition and ethical eating habits, Pip is excited to
be working with a company whose commitment to producing the best
sports nutrition products on the market is matched by their commitment
to the environment and using organic/natural ingredients.
2-03-08 Sponsor News: Pip is pleased
to announce she will continue racing in blue seventy wetsuits for
2008. Having had the opportunity to swim in the new Helix TST this
week, Pip stated the flexibility is so good, "that it is like
you are not swimming in a wetsuit at all". Pip looks forward
to working with blue seventy this season and racing in the new suit
in the coming weeks.
19-12-07 Season's Greetings!: To everyone who
has supported me in 2007 from sponsors to fellow competitors, happy
holidays and have a great new year! Here is looking forward to 2008.
10-11-07 Ironman 70.3 World Championships:
Pip has had to withdraw from the Ironman 70.3 World Championships
in Clearwater Florida after suffering from mechanical difficulties
on the bike. A disappointed Pip exited the swim in 2nd position
and was sitting in 2nd place on the bike before striking difficulties.
Pip is now looking forward to a break over the holiday season and
then starting her preparations for 2008.
19-10-07 Pip to utilize PowerTap.
Pip is pleased to announce that she will be using PowerTap technology
from CycleOps in her quest to maximize her training and subsequent
performance in competition. Pip will be riding on the PowerTap SL
2.4 Wireless hub system to give her real-time performance power
measurements which are accurate to within +/- 1.5%. PowerTap was
the first power measuring device to bring the ease of wireless transmission
to the market and it was this ease of use and set up along with
accuracy which led Pip to her decision to approach the company.
Full details of Cyclops products can be found on www.cycleops.com
and for Australian customers, CycleOps is distributed by TBA www.tba.com.au.
20-09-07 Pip is back in Australia
having a short break and catching up with family. She will be focusing
her training on the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Clearwater
Florida on November 10th – stay tuned for a diary update and
more news from Pip.
10-09-07 Los Angeles Triathlon: Pip
had a what she called “a bad day out” to finish 8th!
She never got into the swing of things all day and it is definitely
time for some time off. The culmination of a lot of travel and racing,
Pip will now back things down for a little bit and then prepare
for her last couple of races for the season.
26-08-07 Chicago Triathlon, USA:
Pip has had an unfortunate puncture on the bike leg in Chicago and
did not finish the race. After a strong swim, Pip was battling it
out in the top three and starting to put time into the rest of the
field when after 10km a pothole on the city course put an end to
her day. Disappointed yet realistic that it is sometimes an unavoidable
reality of racing, Pip will be ready to go again in LA in two weeks
time. Pip remains in 3rd place overall in the Life Time Fitness
series.
19-08-07 RYKA Iron Girl Triathlon, Columbia
MD, USA: Pip finished in 2nd place in the RYKA Iron Girl
Triathlon as part of her final preparations for the Chicago Triathlon
next weekend. Going into the race off heavy training, Pip is pleased
with where her fitness is at and looking forward to Round 3 of the
Life Time Fitness Triathlon Series.
1-08-07 Update: Pip will not be racing
in London next weekend and her next race will be the Ryka Iron Girl
Columbia Triathlon on the 19th of August. Given the weather conditions
in the UK and travel involved Pip has decided that this is the best
thing to do given her other upcoming events.
25-07-07 Sponsor News: Pip is pleased
to announce she has renewed her association with TYR - the leader
in Multi-Sport Apparel and Performance Swimwear. The arrangement
will see her continue to wear and represent TYR on the international
Triathlon circuit.
Pip commented “I am excited to be racing for TYR. They have
provided me with swimsuits, multi-sport apparel and accessories
since I started the sport in 1999. It is important for me to be
using what I consider the best products in pursuit of my athletic
aspirations and with TYR I am confident I am always at the cutting
edge of performance”. For more news and to check out the TYR
range visit www.tyr.com.
21-07-07 New York City Triathlon, USA:
Pip has finished in 4th place at the New York City Triathlon and
round two of the Life Time Fitness Triathlon Series. Pip did not
feel great in the water or on the bike today, but came home with
a strong run – she noted that she needed the swim and bike
legs she had last week in Minneapolis today and the run leg she
had today last week in Minneapolis – but that’s racing!
The run was a good positive for the day and gives Pip confidence
that her best form for the season is yet to come. Pip now sits in
3rd place in the Life Time Fitness Triathlon Series:
Life Time Fitness Triathlon Series Standings after Round 2:
1. Emma Snowsill (AUS)
2. Julie Dibens (GBR)
3. Pip Taylor (AUS)
Check the website for a diary update from Pip in the next 24 hours
as she prepares to head to the UK for the London Triathlon in two
weeks time.
14-07-07 Life Time Fitness Triathlon Minneapolis, USA:
The first race of the World’s richest Triathlon series kicked
off today in Minneapolis with Pip finishing in a strong 5th place.
In one of the most powerful fields in the sport of triathlon, Pip
exited the swim at the front of the lead group beside World Number
1 Vanessa Fernandes (POR), three time World Champion Emma Snowsill
(AUS), triple World Championship Medalist and recent winner of the
Hy-Vee World Cup Laura Bennett (USA), British Triathlon Champ Julie
Dibens (GBR), US powerhouse Becky Lavelle and Australian Olympian
Rina Hill. This group was 1.30 up on a chase group containing World
70.3 Champion Samantha McGlone (CAN) and World 70.3 Bronze Medalist
Miranda Carfrae.
On the bike it was Dibens who attacked off the front, with Pip,
Becky Lavelle, Emma Snowsill and Vanessa Fernandez coming in to
transition within 20 seconds of each other after riding a further
two minutes into most of the rest of the field. It was clear after
this that the podium positions would only be decided from this group
On the run, Fernandez quickly moved to the front of the field and
to victory with Emma Snowsill finishing in 2nd. Dibens held on to
3rd place after her fast bike with Becky and Pip crossing in 4th
and 5th respectively.
1 Vanessa Fernandes Perosinho, , Prt
2 Emma Snowsill Gold Coast, QLD, Aus
3 Julie Dibens Bath, Gbr
4 Becky Lavelle Los Gatos, CA, USA
5 Pip Taylor Lennox Head, NSW, Aus
6 Laura Bennett North Palm Beach, FL, USA
7 Mirinda Carfrae Boulder, CO, USA
8 Samantha McGlone Colorado Springs, CO, Can
9 Rina Hill Brisbane, QLD, Aus
10 Margaret Shapiro Herndon, VA, USA
Pip was happy with her race and continues to get stronger as she
gets more racing back under her belt. Her run is coming back together
and she plans to have this where it needs to be over the next few
events.
Next up is the New York Triathlon (and round two of the Life Time
Fitness Triathlon Series) next weekend, before Pip heads over to
the UK for the London Triathlon.
1-07-07 Battle At Midway Triathlon, Utah USA:
Pip has finished 3rd at the BAM Triathlon in Utah behind three time
ITU World Champion, Emma Snowsill of Australia and 2006 ITU World
Championship 4th place getter, Canadian Lauren Groves. When asked
about her race, Pip’s comment was “don’t travel
from sea level to 6000 feet of altitude and try and race 24 hours
later!”
Pip led the swim out and was 10 seconds up on Emma heading out of
the first transition with Emma then forging a gap into the bike.
Pip rode as strong as she could in the thin mountain air to enter
the second transition in second place with Lauren back in third.
On what turned out to be about the hardest run course of any Triathlon
in the world - following the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympic
Games Biathlon Course on trails up and down the mountain - Snowsill
ran away for a strong win and Lauren overtook Pip in the final mile
for second. Again Pip was happy to finish on the podium, but it
was a definite disadvantage racing the girls who had been already
based at altitude in Boulder Colorado! A fun race in a great venue
and recommended to anyone looking for a tough day out.
Pip’s diary report from the race will be on the website in
the next 24 hours after she travels back down the mountain for some
oxygen….
24-06-07 Philadelphia Triathlon, USA:
Its three podiums in three weeks for Pip after a 3rd place finish
at the Philadelphia Triathlon. Pip was feeling decidedly “flat”
today after the long trip from Australia and racing Escape from
Alcatraz along with the Eagleman 70.3 Half Ironman over the last
couple of weeks and did not have her usual strength on the bike.
However, she was happy to get another podium and is looking forward
to freshening up and racing hard at the Battle At Midway Triathlon
next weekend as her final hit out before the Life Time Fitness Series
starts in Minneapolis on the 14th of July.
10-06-07 Eagleman 70.3 Half Ironman, Cambridge
MD USA: Pip has finished 3rd in a hard fought Eagleman
70.3 event on Sunday. One of the best fields ever assembled for
a 70.3 event lined up including 6 time Hawaii Ironman Champion Natascha
Badmann of Switzerland, 2006 Hawaii Ironman Runner Up, Desiree Ficker
from the USA, 2007 Ironman Australia Champion Rebekah Keat and 2006
70.3 World Championship Bronze Medallist Mirinda Carfrae both of
Australia. Even though it was only her second attempt at the distance,
Pip had one tactic for the race – to go out hard, put the
field under pressure early and to make them chase…hard. The
race started perfectly with Pip exiting the swim transition first
overall on to the bike out of all athletes, including the pro men.
She attacked the bike course flat out to put good time in to the
majority of the field with the exception of super biker Badmann
who finally caught Pip in the closing miles of the bike to hold
a 1 minute 30 second lead going into the run, with Desiree Ficker
a further 1 minute back. True to her race plan, Pip put it all on
the line for the win and proceeded to chase down Badmann closing
the gap to 58 seconds in the first 3 miles. Pip started to pay for
her early pace with about 4 miles to go and eventually Badmann’s
experience shone through as she posted the World’s fastest
ever time for a Half Ironman distance in 4 hours 8 minutes and 18
seconds. It was Mirinda Carfrae with the days fastest run split
who caught Pip within the last mile to finish second. Badmann was
clearly not happy with being put under pressure and having not raced
Pip before did not like the fact that she can ride fast. The reality
is that Pip is back. And she means business.
3-06-07 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon, San
Francisco: Pip has “escaped from the rock”
in 2nd place. The world famous Escape From Alcatraz triathlon started
in 1980 and is renowned for its punishing course and conditions,
this year was no different with icy winds and heavy fog. Pip raced
consistently at or near the front all day to finally be bested by
2002 ITU World Champion Leanda Cave of Great Britain. Pip now starts
preparing for the Eagleman 70.3 next weekend and is happy as her
race form starts to develop. Stay tuned for a diary update from
Pip in the next couple of days.
14-05-07: Pip has finished 3rd in
the Byron Bay Triathlon after a drafting infringement cost her a
3 minute penalty and the win. A questionable call, but Pip is extremely
happy with her form and looking forward to putting it to good use
in the coming weeks. Olympian Rina Hill finished 1st with Australian
Ironman Champion Rebekah Keat 2nd. The article below is from Lismore's
Northern Star Newspaper:
Pipped for drafting
14.05.2007
By HELEN JACK
LENNOX-based triathlete Pip Taylor returned from a nine-month lay-off
to storm into the lead of the 12th annual Byron Bay Triathlon on
Saturday.
Until she was pipped for drafting.
“I felt happy with my swim, and happy with my bike ride,”
she said yesterday.
“Unfortunately I ran up the back of some boys going up a
hill and was penalised for drafting.”
The enforced three-minute wait at the end of her bike leg cruelled
the promising athlete — physically and mentally.
“I went from 100 percent effort to cooling my heels and watching
the minutes tick by,” she said.
Taylor was so far out in front of her competitors that two-and-a-half
minutes elapsed before the pack caught up.
As they passed she watched any chance of snaring the $1250 first
place prizemoney run out of sight.
“I can take the penalty, but it is really frustrating when
it doesn’t feel like a level playing field,” she said.
“The draft-busters could have done a better job watching
the rest of the field. I know what was going on behind me.”
Taylor’s third place result proved just how hard she had
to dig and it will boost her confidence going into a strenuous triathlon
season in the United States. Pip is due to fly out of Australia
in 10 days.
“The Byron Bay result was frustrating but I was happy with
my race,” she said.
“It set me up well, and has given me a lot of confidence.”
Pip’s enforced lay-off since last June was the result of fatigue.
“I just needed time out to recover,” she said.
18-04-07: Pip has confirmed her international
race schedule for 2007. Commencing in June with the Escape From
Alcatraz Triathlon in San Francisco, before crossing the USA and
over to Europe. Stay tuned for further additions to the calendar.

25-03-07: Mooloolaba Triathlon - Pip has finished
2nd at the Aria Property Group non-drafting Professional race at
Mooloolaba. Her second race for the 2007 session and first Olympic
distance race in some time, it was a positive day out and a real
indicator that Pip will be in form for the start of her American
based race season. More details and a full race calendar to follow
this week
15-02-07: Pip has won her first race
of 2007 - the Triathlon NSW Pro Tour Event at Kurnell on the weekend.
A low key hit out to gauge fitness and to assess her next block
of training, Pip was happy with where she is at. Pip's full race
calendar for 2007 will be added to the website in the coming weeks
- with the plan to be racing internationally in March.
14-12-06: It has been some time since my last update
for the simple reason that I have been enjoying some time off. The
break I have had has been fantastic – the best thing I have
done both physically and mentally to get me back on track and looking
towards next season. Over the past year I have really struggled
– I got sick and never fully recovered and then proceeded
to train myself into a hole. Obviously the smart thing to do (and
what everyone else around me could see) was to take a short break
and recover, however when that is suggested to an athlete, there
is immediate panic and the tendency to launch into more and more
and harder and harder training. Not surprisingly you don’t
actually get better but continue to slide until it is impossible
to ignore and really the only option is to step back. It is amazing
too what you can see and learn once you have made this decision
– it seems as though suddenly I have a much greater understanding
of myself and what I need to do and all of the lessons learned over
the years are finally put into a meaningful perspective.
So now I am back into the training and loving it again!!! It had
got to be just a real slog and every session a real effort, no matter
how small or easy. I am even able to get my heart rate up on the
occasional sprint session (and back down again) which is something
that I had lost the ability to do – thus also explaining some
of my lack of ‘spark’ in races. I am progressing things
slowly – giving my body time to readjust and rather than trying
to fit into a weekly program I am doing everything on feel. And
slowly but surely things are feeling a lot better. And I am excited
about racing again too and I expect that within the next few months
I will be back. Over the next few weeks as my training increases
I will have a better idea of my race plans, however I am serious
about giving myself the best shot at qualifying for and performing
to my potential at the 2008 Olympics.
One of my latest training buddies has been the Garmin Forerunner
305. It is like a little brain strapped to my wrist but it can tell
me (and my coach) all sorts of things about my training that I never
knew! It is going to be incredibly useful especially once I am back
into full training and in more of a routine. It records and plots
absolutely every parameter you can think of, as well as the many
functions that I am yet to get a full handle on…
and you can check out some of my recent training rides and runs
at www.ptaylor.motionbased.com
(you need to sign up for a free account to view).
I hope that training is going well for everyone – I can’t
believe that we are already at the twilight end of another year
– I still have a lot I want to squeeze into 2006 so I had
better get going!
Take care, Pip
5-06-06 Escape from Alcatraz: Pip has
finished 7th in the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon in San Francisco.
A hard and exciting race with many quirks – Pip is convinced
it is a race you need to experience before you can win! Armed with
the knowledge of this years event, Pip is already looking forward
to escaping from “the rock” in 2007! Check back for
a diary update from Pip in the coming days.
22-05-06 Florida 70.3 Half Ironman, Florida
USA: Pip has finished 6th in Florida. After a strong swim
leading out of the water with Leanda Cave (GBR), Pip rode strongly
until stomach cramps prevented her from eating. Obviously in a Half
Ironman, nutrition is essential so Pip knew she was going to be
in trouble with 70km on the bike and a half marathon to go! She
managed to keep her fluids up and went into damage control to hold
on to six spot – which was good enough to get her the qualifying
position she wanted for the 70.3 World Championships to be held
in Clearwater, Florida in November. So a day of mixed fortunes –
happy that she got the qualifying spot and to get the race under
her belt, but disappointed not be able to race 100%! Pip now returns
to Canada before racing Escape from Alcatraz in two weeks time.
12-05-06 Florida 70.3 Half Ironman, Florida
USA: Pip will race Florida 70.3 next weekend in a later
addition to her race schedule. This event forms part of the Ironman
70.3 series and is a qualifier for the Ironman 70.3 World Championships
to be held in Clearwater, Florida this November. Check back for
results and story after the event on the 21st of May.
1-05-06 St Anthony’s Triathlon, Florida
USA: Pip has punctured in the St Anthony’s Triathlon
for a disappointing start to her race season! One of the occupational
hazards of Triathlon - but still it is tough (and very expensive)
to fly half way around the world to walk back along the bike course
with a flat tyre. Next up is Escape from Alcatraz in four weeks
time where Pip is determined to have a better day out!
18-04-06 St Anthony’s Triathlon, Florida
USA: Pip leaves next week to race the USA Triathlon season.
First on the agenda is the St Anthony’s Triathlon on April
30th in Florida. Following is the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon
in San Francisco before a number of other events across the country.
Please see the Race Calendar on the website for more details.
12-02-06 Australian Long Course Championships,
Huskisson, Jervis Bay: Pip has finished 2nd at the Australian
Long Course Championships with a great performance. At what is a
beautiful venue and great course, race day was anything but perfect
with storm clouds and torrential rain looming.
With the first swim buoy for the race blowing away in the conditions,
the athletes had to swim out to a “marker” boat which
seemed to have a mind of its own! Despite the conditions, Pip exited
the water with a gap of about two minutes over the majority of the
girls and quickly headed out on the bike to try and consolidate
the lead. She did this for the first 45km or so in torrential rain
before being “swamped” by a large group of age group
men also containing the professional women. It was clear at this
point that the race was going to be decided on the run! Unfortunately
for Pip, the large group into transition saw her get tangled up
with some other competitors loosing valuable time and it was Sarah
Fien who was out on to the run first.
The gap between Sarah and Pip remained fairly constant between 20
to 30 seconds for the whole 20km and even with Pip running a 1.17
and putting about 5 minutes into Mel Ashton in third place –
Sarah had a great day and held on for the win. With three top ten
finishes from the Hawaii Ironman racing it was a great day out with
Pip enjoying herself immensely. More details in the diary section.
6-02-06 One week to go to the Australian
Long Course Championships - update from Pip in the Diary section.
12-01-06 Four weeks out from the
Australian Long Course Championships and all is on track for Pip.
More details in the Diary section.
19-12-05 Seasons Greetings!: Happy
Christmas to everyone from Pip and stay tuned for race plans for
2006. Pip's next race will be the Australian Long Course Championships
on the 12th of February. More details can be found in the Diary
Section.
13-11-05 New Plymouth World Cup:
Pip’s run of bad luck at World Cup’s for 2005 continued
after waking up sick on race day in New Zealand. Pip started the
event but withdrew after vomiting on the bike leg. Pip in no uncertain
terms is pleased the 2005 World Cup season has come to an end and
looks forward to the new 2006 season!
6-11-05 Noosa Triathlon: Pip has
finished 4th in the Noosa Triathlon in her first major competition
in a couple of months. Next on the agenda is the New Plymouth World
Cup in New Zealand this weekend. Pip is hoping to build on her fitness
from Noosa for a strong showing in the final World Cup of the year.
6-10-05 Noosa Triathlon: Four weeks
to go to the biggest Triathlon in the Southern Hemisphere! Pip is
training hard for the Noosa Triathlon and the week after will head
to New Zealand for the final World Cup of the year in New Plymouth.
Pip is also starting to piece together her race calendar for 2006
– more details in the diary section.
6-09-05 Evans Head Triathlon, Australia:
In her first race back following a break since returning from Europe,
Pip has won the Evans Head Triathlon. This is an enjoyable sprint
distance race run by Pip’s home Triathlon Club and held on
the beachfront in the coastal town of Evans Head. Pip put in a solid
performance to get the “cobwebs” out of her system!
21-08-05 ITU Asian Cup, Macau: Pip
has won the ITU Asian Cup in Macau (Hong Kong), in typical tropical
rainy conditions. After leading the swim out with Nicole Hackett
(AUS), the two of them established a strong lead on the bike before
Pip moved away on the run. While still feeling jetlagged from the
trip from Europe, Pip was happy to get a win under her belt following
her recent run of bad luck! More details on the race soon in the
diary section on the website after Pip returns to Australia this
week.
11-08-05 ITU Hamburg World Cup, Germany: Pip
has failed to finish the Hamburg World Cup after receiving a concussion
in the swim. The swim course goes under a bridge and Pip was knocked
into the side wall during the first lap. After leaving the tunnel
the athletes exit the water for a turn before diving in again for
the second lap. Unfortunately, with Pip being disorientated from
hitting her head on the wall, after she stood up she was bumped
and fell again hitting her head on the metal stair rail. It was
at this point that the medical staff removed her from the race.
Hamburg was Pip’s final chance to be named in the Australian
Elite World Championship Team for this year, so unfortunately she
will not be racing. This is disappointing for Pip given that she
is fit and feeling good to race – but is an unfortunate reality
of racing professionally. Pip will now use this as an opportunity
to race some different events and to build for the future. Her next
event will be the Macau ITU Race next weekend followed by some major
non-drafting events over the coming months.

18-07-05 Corner Brook World Cup: Pip
has had to withdraw from the Corner Brook World Cup Triathlon after
suffering a flat tyre on the bike leg. Next stop will be the Salford
World Cup in two weeks time - and hopefully a bit better luck!
14-07-05 Corner Brook World Cup this Weekend:
Stay tuned for results from Corner Brook this weekend!
Pip will travel up from Toronto on Friday for her first targeted
World Cup of the year. All is going well and Pip is looking forward
to the race!
5-07-05 ITU Asian Championships, Singapore:
Pip has finished 2nd at the ITU Asian Championships in Singapore.
After Pip lead the swim out and established a break of 6 athletes
on the bike, unknown Chinese athlete Wang Hong Ni moved away from
Pip in the final kilometre of the run for a surprising victory.
The race was extremely hot and humid and was an excellent training
day for Pip before racing the Corner Brook World Cup in two weeks
time. While not yet fully race fit, she was happy with aspects of
the race – including competing in the heat of Singapore off
the Australian winter and a long flight indicating that things are
progressing in the right direction. Pip has now flown in to Canada
to meet up with the Australian Institute of Sport Team for the rest
of the racing trip up to the World Championships in September.
21-06-05 ITU Asian Cup Wakayama, Japan: Pip
has won the ITU Asian Cup in Wakayama Japan held on Sunday. In hot
and humid conditions Pip led the race from start to finish to come
home with a confidence boosting win. Next on the schedule is the
ITU Asian Championships in Singapore on July 3rd before heading
off to Canada for the Corner Brook World Cup.

16-06-05 World Duathlon Championships:
Pip has qualified for the Australian Elite Team for the World Duathlon
Championships (Run/Bike/Run). These will be held in Newcastle Australia
on September 25th two weeks after the World Triathlon Championships.
It is a great opportunity to compete for a World Championship on
home soil – and one Pip is looking forward to!
This weekend Pip races the ITU Asian Cup event in Wakayama Japan.
It is a good opportunity to have a strong hit out before she heads
to the next round of the World Cup in Canada – and should
be a fun weekend of racing.
31-05-05 Pip to ride Vittoria Tyres for 2005:
Pip is pleased to announce that she will be racing exclusively on
Vittoria Tyres for 2005. Regarded as the premier cycling tyre in
the world, Pip will be using the KX Tubular and KX Open Clincher
throughout the 2005 season. Further information on Vittoria Tyres
can be found at www.vittoria.com.
16-05-05 ITU Ishigaki World Cup Japan:
Pip has finished 9th in the ITU Ishigaki World Cup in Japan. Held
in stifling hot and humid conditions on the island of Ishigaki,
the race was a battle of the elements with many competitors suffering
in the oppressive conditions. Pip worked hard on the bike to try
and get a chase group organised to mount a challenge to early race
leader Loretta Harrop (AUS). It was to no avail as eventually the
heat took its toll on the field and New Zealander, Samantha Warriner
held tough for her first World Cup win. Pip was happy with aspects
of her race and feels that things are on track for her major goals
this season.
7-05-05 Becton - Byron Bay Triathlon: Pip has
won the Becton - Byron Bay Triathlon on the NSW North Coast. After
disappointingly having to withdraw from the Mooloolaba World Cup
last weekend following an accidental swift kick to the head during
the swim, Pip comfortably won her hometown event today. Leading
the Women’s event from start to finish, Pip came home with
the fastest Female run split – which was also the third fastest
run split in the Pro Male field - to comfortably secure victory.
Pip fly’s out to the Ishigaki World Cup in Japan on Thursday
and hopes the hit-out in Byron signals her form coming together
for the start of her international race season. For more from Pip
see the Diary section.
5-04-05 Forster: After heading down to watch the
final Australian Ironman at Forster, Pip had an enjoyable weekend
winning the Ikm Ocean Swim on the Friday night and placing 2nd in
the Asics 5km Run on Saturday morning. Next on the agenda is the
Mooloolaba World Cup on the 1st of May where Pip plans to put the
virus that hampered her at Hobart and Geelong behind her for a strong
race.
23-03-05 Pip races on Campagnolo for 2005: Pip
will continue to use Campagnolo Bicycle components for the 2005
season. She will be racing on the impeccable new Record Compact
groupset - with Campagnolo being the first company to offer a fully
integrated compact drivetrain solution. Pip will also be using Campagnolo
wheels – including the carbon fibre Bora and new Euros Carbon
for racing. Further details on Campagnolo components can be found
at www.campagnolo.com.
11-03-05 Pip Re-Signs with TYR Swimwear: Pip has
continued her relationship with TYR Swimwear Australia, the company
she has competed for over the last 5 seasons. She will be racing
in their flagship Aqua Shift™ Short John this season –which
testing has shown has the lowest drag coefficient of any swimsuit
in the world. It utilises Tripwire™ technology – and
most importantly for Pip has proven very fast and comfortable in
races over the 2004 season!
Pip is pleased to be able to continue racing in TYR suits and says
“I have always enjoyed racing in TYR and find them the fastest,
most comfortable and reliable suits available. I am pleased to be
able to continue building my relationship with the company and look
forward to utilising the Aqua Shift™ suit around Australia
and the World this season.” Further details about TYR and
Aquashift™ can be found on www.tyr.com.au
and www.tyrsport.com.
22-02-05 Hobart International: Pip has finished
7th at the ITU Hobart Continental Triathlon in Australia. Feeling
decidedly flat and underdone for her first race of the season, Pip
got rid of the “cobwebs” and is now ready for the build
up to the Australian Championships in Geelong on March 27th. Fourth
out of the swim, Pip was flat and not as aggressive on the bike
as usual to come in for the run in the second pack. A steady run
saw her hold things together for a 7th place.
20-01-05 Season Opener Getting Closer: Pip will
race the ITU Hobart Continental Triathlon in Australia as the first
race of her season on February 20th. She is back into training and
will be doing a few low profile events in the build up to Hobart
– which is the first selection event for the Australian World
Championship Team. More details in the Diary section.
6-01-05 New Year: The start of a New Year and
the start of another new season! Pip has returned to racing with
her first hit out in over three months winning the Yamba Sports
Fest competing over four swim/run races! She is currently finalising
race plans for the rest of the year including the Australian Domestic,
International and World Cup Races - and these will soon be up on
the website. Her New Years goals and resolutions have been set and
if she can perform to her own expectations then it will be an exciting
year!
9-12-04 Christmas Wishes!: As the year is fast
drawing to a close I would like to take the opportunity to thank
all my sponsors, family, friends and fans for their support and
encouragement throughout the year. It really does make all the difference
knowing that you have the backing and confidence of so many people.
Normally at this time of year, the Australian triathlon domestic
season is in full swing - so it will be nice this year to enjoy
Christmas with family and be able to relax a bit more before concentrating
on the first of the races early February. It has been a nice break
but I must admit I am already looking forward to getting back into
race mode!
I hope for everyone it has been both a successful and a happy year
and that next year is even more so!
Please have a very Merry Christmas, enjoy the time with family and
friends, don’t train too hard and eat lots of pudding on Christmas
Day!
‘til the New Year of ’05!
Pip
10-11-04 ITU World Cup, Final Rankings: Pip has finished
7th overall in the World Rankings for 2004. Unfortunately, the ITB
injury which saw Pip withdraw from the Madrid World Cup took a fair
bit of treatment to come right and she was unable to travel to Cancun
and Rio for the last two rounds of the tour. This obviously ended
her chances of overall World Cup victory, but it has still been
a pleasing season and Pip looks forward to next years World Cup
and the Australian National Series events this summer.
27-9-04 Gamagori World Cup, Japan: Pip has crashed
out of the Gamagori World Cup. On what was a very tough and dangerous
course Pip lost traction on moss going down the descent on the same
corner that fellow athlete Liz Blatchford crashed heavily on seconds
before in front of her. Pip hit the gutter and was catapulted off
the road and 20 metres down a cliff before she came to a stop. Fortunately
early reports that she had possibly some breaks in her neck were
unconfirmed once X-Rays were taken at hospital. Generally it was
very lucky for Pip, however there will be some re-evaluation by
some parties after the numerous crashes over the day as to whether
this course is suitable for a World Championship Race in 2005. More
details from Pip in Diary section.
20-9-04 Madrid World Cup, Spain: A knee injury
has seen Pip withdraw from the Madrid World Cup yesterday. After
exiting the swim in the lead group of six, Pip was unable to put
pressure on her right leg during the first hill on the bike causing
her to withdraw from the race. Related to a tight Illiotibial band,
the knee is improving rapidly with good massage treatment and all
is looking good for the next World Cup in Gamagori Japan in six
days time. This will be a new course in Gamagori – and the
first opportunity to look at the World Championships course for
2005! More details from Pip about the race in the Diary section.
6-9-04 Hamburg World Cup, Germany: After what
Pip has described as a very “flat feeling” day for her
she has managed to hold things together for a 5th Place finish in
front of a crowd of 100,000 people in downtown Hamburg. Pip holds
on to 2nd overall in the World Cup after Anja Dittmer from Germany
won her home town event to move into 1st position in the rankings.
A group of seven athletes formed after the swim containing three
Germans (Dittmer, Franzman and Hartel), three Australians (Taylor,
Luxford and Mitchell) and a Spaniard (Hidalgo). These girls worked
well on the technical downtown course – with the Germans keen
to succeed at their National event. By the end of the bike it was
clear the winner would come from this group and it was Dittmer who
pulled away on the run to hold off Hidalgo, Luxford, Franzman and
Taylor. An exiting race at an amazing downtown venue, with live
TV coverage nationally in Germany and also 6,000 age group athletes
competing over the weekend.
Next stop on the circuit is Madrid in just under two weeks.

21-8-04 There are only two weeks to go until Pip’s
next World Cup Race in Hamburg and everything is headed in the right
direction. She has opted to not race since withdrawing sick from
the Hungary World Cup instead getting into a steady couple of weeks
of training. Check out the diary update for more news and details.
3-8-04 Hungary World Cup: A sinusitis infection
forced Pip to withdraw from the Hungary World Cup on the weekend
but saw her step into a new role as a commentator on the ITU live
site! This has meant that she is now sitting in second on the World
Cup rankings, a position she intends on holding only temporarily
until the next round of races gives her the opportunity to grab
that top spot again!! Next stop is Hamburg World Cup in five weeks
which gives plenty of time for some serious training back in France.
28-7-04 Pip moves further ahead in 2004 World
Cup Rankings: Despite being sick for the Manchester World
Cup, Pip’s 11th placing was good enough to move her five points
clear on the overall World Cup Rankings to maintain her number one
position.
A strong placing in his weekends World Cup race in Hungary will
give her the opportunity to cement her number one spot before the
final series of races starts again in September. These final races
will decide the overall World Cup winner, so to go into them in
the lead in the competition will be a big advantage. Stay tuned
for results from this coming weekend….
26-7-04 Manchester World Cup, England: Wet, cold,
slippery and generally miserable conditions greeted the field for
the 2004 Manchester World Cup Triathlon. Unfortunately Pip came
down with a cold on Thursday and was always going to be up against
it to be in any condition to race on Sunday let alone defend her
title from 2003. As the race panned out Pip was still able to be
first out of transition after a strong swim and settled into the
front group on the bike who were taking it very easy in the wet
conditions over cobblestones. It was on the run however where the
effects of the cold started to show and Pip unable to breathe properly
struggled through for an 11th place finish.
Next weekend the World Cup tour is off to Hungary and with Pip getting
over her cold she is looking forward to a fast race!

19-7-04 Corner Brook World Cup, Canada: Pip has
finished 2nd at the Corner Brook World Cup Triathlon in Newfoundland
Canada moving into equal first in the 2004 World Cup Standings.
A warm day and a hard hilly course were the venue for what is regarded
as probably the toughest World Cup on the circuit. In the lead group
out of the water Pip teamed up with five other girls on the bike
to make the race their own. Annabel Luxford (AUS) broke away from
this group to try and forge victory by herself, but the experienced
chase group kept her at a comfortable distance and were confident
of chasing her down on the run. As the race progressed they also
increased their advantage over the rest of the field to have a comfortable
margin heading into transition. Out onto the run it was Pip and
Kathleen Smet (BEL) running head to head and by lap two they had
passed Luxford to decide the top spot on the podium between them.
It was Kathleen who was stronger on the day and into the last lap
she forged a small gap over Pip to hold on for the win.
Pip raced well all day however and was pleased with the result –
stating that it was a fun day of racing! Her run is getting stronger
each week again and she is looking forward to returning to Manchester
next weekend for the next round of the World Cup where she is defending
champion.
The result in Corner Brook moves Pip into equal first place in the
2004 World Cup standings, along with fellow Australian Loretta Harrop.
A great achievement and something Pip hopes to capitalise on in
the up coming races.

12-7-04 Edmonton World Cup, Canada:
Completed in stormy conditions, Pip has finished 6th at the Edmonton
World Cup Triathlon in Canada. The weather deteriorated over the
duration of the day and the men’s event was cancelled as hail
started to come down during the final stages of the women’s
run.
Pip stayed in the top two positions throughout the swim to exit
with fellow Australian Loretta Harrop in a group of six athletes.
Out of transition four athletes pushed the pace to get away including
Pip, Loretta, Melanie Mitchell (AUS) and Anneliese Heard (GBR).
After two laps this group was caught by eight athletes to form a
group of twelve at the front of the race. This stayed together for
the remainder of the bike with the podium to be decided on the run.
On the first lap of the run Pip realised that the speed was just
not there to go for the win, but as the run went on she built the
pace to finish a strong sixth.
Pip was very happy with her form and in particular
her endurance over the event. The final part of her training to
come back together after her broken foot will be the top end run
speed and she can see this is now almost back to where it needs
to be. Next weekend is the Cornerbrook World Cup also in Canada,
where Pip plans to keep building the run form and push for another
podium finish.
The result in Edmonton also puts Pip into equal third
on the World Cup standings and again a strong race in Cornerbrook
will see her have a shot at taken the lead in the competition.

12-6-04 Tongyeong World Cup, South Korea: Pip
has finished 2nd at the Tongyeong World Cup Triathlon in South Korea.
After coming out of the swim in a strong second position, Pip
forced the pace out of transition to form a breakaway of six riders
who then rode away from the field. The time gap kept growing on
each of the eight laps for the group to eventually hold a three
minute advantage over the main field. As the race progressed the
temperature really heated up and it was apparent that you would
have to run smart to make the podium. Pip went head to head with
2002 World Champion Leanda Cave from Great Britain for the first
five kilometres, until Leanda moved away for a well earned victory.
Pip held tough to finish second with Canada's Jill Savage third.
It was a great return to racing for Pip after her broken foot -
and an awesome start for the rest of the season which now sees her
ranked 6th in the current World Cup standings.

28-5-04 Getting Ready for the World Cup Season: In
just over one week Pip heads off to race the Tongyeong World Cup
in Korea before heading to Canada and Europe for the next four months.
This will be Pip's return to racing after her "summer to forget
" that saw her miss Olympic Selection and break her foot in a bike
crash at the Accenture Triathlon Series (check Diary section for
more details). Pip will be based with the Australian Institute of
Sport in Europe and is looking forward to getting back on to the
podium. Stay tuned for results, updates and photos!
27-5-04 Bikesportz Australia Media Release - Pip Taylor
Contracted by Campagnolo for 2004-2005: It's been hard
for those in the Triathlon world to ignore the rise and rise of
up and coming Triathlete, Pip Taylor. The Byron Bay based Australian
representative, won at the World Cup in Manchester last year, and
backed that up with a second place in New York and a win at the
World Team Championships.
Already supported by famous European brands, such as Bianchi, San
Marco and Carnac, Pip has recently been offered a very rare co-factory
sponsorship from the Vicenza based, Campagnolo.
Taylor has always used Record Groupsets and Campagnolo wheels,
and is a vocal supporter of the reliability and performance of her
Italian components. This year, she also used the new G3 Boras, and
fell in love with their speed (and looks), as many observers have
with Pip herself.
More and more Triathletes have already converted over to Campagnolo
components and wheels, from what has traditionally been a Shimano
dominated sport. The signs are strong that many more will follow
Pip Taylor's lead in the coming season.
